American artificial intelligence (AI) start-up Anthropic reportedly dispatched high-ranking technicians to Washington, D.C., and negotiated directly with the White House to resolve the suspension of its latest AI models ‘Mitos 5’ and ‘Fable 5’ services.

Citing sources close to the company, Axios reported on the 14th (local time) that senior technical personnel at Anthropic are currently meeting with White House officials in Washington, D.C., to discuss ways to resolve the conflict.

The move came just days after the U.S. government designated Mitos 5 and Fable 5 as export controls and ordered the suspension of services, citing national security concerns. After receiving relevant instructions from the U.S. government on the 12th, Anthropic completely blocked customer access to the two models. It has also suspended access to foreign national employees.

The incident is considered a representative case in which the conflict between Anthropic and the Trump administration has been publicly revealed. The U.S. government has taken intensive measures, raising concerns that certain types of “jail-free” techniques could circumvent the model’s safety devices. Axios said administration officials have maintained that Anthropic’s response has not been serious.

On the other hand, Anthropic has refuted the government’s problematic vulnerabilities as minor levels already known. The company also indirectly expressed dissatisfaction with the government’s measures, claiming that the safety devices of the model were designed strongly enough to cause complaints that they were too strict.

However, the two sides have recently started to close the conflict. According to the sources, the Anthropic technicians have been in constant consultation with government officials via video conference since last week’s first contact with the White House. This time, they sent personnel directly to Washington to start face-to-face negotiations. “Officers familiar with the situation want both the government and Anthropic to resolve the problem early,” Axios said.
