Germany is already prepared to confront Russia in the event of an attack on one of its NATO allies, said Holger Neumann, commander of the German Air Force, while naming potential targets. This was stated in his interview with the newspaper The Telegraph.

    WHY THIS MATTERS

The Kremlin is planning provocations in the Baltic states. Under the guise of “protecting Russians,” it may create a pretext for war or a hybrid attack. The Russians are not focusing on territory, but rather on testing NATO’s unity.

LIGA.net examined the possible scenarios for a war in the Baltic states and the risks this poses for NATO and Ukraine.

According to him, Germany is ready to “go to war with Russia as early as tonight” and will defend “every inch” of NATO territory. The commander of the German Air Force noted that this is an important message for the Baltic states and the High North.

Neumann also warned Moscow that NATO does not have “different security zones,” which means that an attack on Estonia would provoke the same response as an airstrike on London.

“It must be clearly understood that there are no zones with varying levels of security, that NATO is NATO down to the last centimeter. I think we need to make very serious efforts to conduct surveillance and, if necessary, take action in certain regions from a security perspective,” said the commander of the German Air Force.

He named the following locations: Kaliningrad – a strategic Russian exclave surrounded by NATO countries; St. Petersburg, home to significant naval forces; the Kola Peninsula, where Moscow is building up its nuclear capabilities, and the Black Sea – the home of the Black Sea Fleet, which is of great value to Russia.

These areas will suffer if NATO is forced to defend itself against Russia, the newspaper noted. Any NATO defensive response to a Russian attack would be devastating, as it would be a “32 against X” confrontation, said the commander of the German Air Force, referring to the 32 air forces of the Alliance’s member countries.

    • On May 27, 2026, the Polish foreign minister stated that Russia is currently cannot launch a large-scale offensive against NATO countries.
    • On June 4, the commander of the Latvian Armed Forces stated that Russia had gained a technological advantage that it could exploit to attack NATO by the end of 2028.
    • The commander of the Bundeswehr believes that Germany must speed up preparing its armed forces for an attack by Russia. Russia could attack NATO by 2029 or even sooner.
