ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) — Fans from two continents marched through Downtown Atlanta ahead of Thursday afternoon’s World Cup match between Czechia and South Africa at Atlanta Stadium.
Many of the fans are metro Atlanta residents whose hearts are split between their adopted home and their home countries.

South Africa fans gathered earlier in the day in south Downtown at the newly built Founders Green Park. They marched together to FIFA Fan Festival Atlanta, filling the streets with color and sound ahead of kickoff.
Both teams are desperate for a win after dropping their opening matches.
For Atlanta, the match is more than a soccer game. It’s a showcase moment and a chance for the world to see a city that has completely transformed itself.
“I’ve been here since ’96. But knew that it was going to be an amazing atmosphere — colorful as you see. Diversity. It’s amazing. We just want to bring spirit and support each other,” said Nthaevi Mohale, a South Africa fan.
David Hronek, a Czechia fan, said this is the first time in 20 years his team has made the World Cup.
“I really like that we live in Atlanta,” Hronek said. “I hope we’re going to win today, right?”
Both teams have flagged heat and fitness as a concern for the match. But with rain keeping the roof closed at Atlanta Stadium, climate-controlled air means conditions will be ideal on the pitch.
