Lithuania’s Ministry of Education, Science and Sport is accepting nominations for its Honorary Badge, the ministry’s highest award for significant contributions to education, science and sport in Lithuania.

    The notice is relevant to institutions, organisations and local authorities in Šilalė district, a municipality in western Lithuania, as well as to other eligible bodies across the country. Nominations are accepted until 14 August 2026, inclusive. A completed nomination form must be submitted to the ministry by email.

    Candidates cannot be nominated by private individuals acting on their own. The official nomination must come through eligible institutional or organisational representatives.

    Nominations may be submitted by:

    • vice-ministers of education, science and sport;
    • the ministry chancellor;
    • heads of administrative divisions of the ministry;
    • heads of institutions under or subordinate to the ministry;
    • heads of municipal administrations;
    • heads of non-governmental organisations;
    • heads of other institutions, organisations and bodies.

    This means that candidates should be proposed through organisations able to justify the person’s merits in education, science or sport.

    The Honorary Badge is presented each year on 14 October, marking the anniversary of the establishment of the Commission of National Education of the Kingdom of Poland and the Grand Duchy of Lithuania. The date is linked to the historical development of education in Lithuania.

    Anyone submitting a candidate must follow the regulations for awarding the Honorary Badge of the Ministry of Education, Science and Sport of the Republic of Lithuania. These regulations set out the selection criteria and submission procedure.

    The main required document is the nomination form, listed as Annex 1 to the regulations. It must provide information about the candidate and the achievements for which the person is being proposed for the ministry’s highest honour.

    For context, infoerdve.lt has previously reported on Honorary Badges awarded for contributions to education, showing the type of public-service work that may be recognised.

    The ministry says the award regulations and nomination form are published on its website. Applicants should use the official form before sending documents, as nominations are assessed under the established procedure.
