The spokesperson for Iran’s delegation in Switzerland attending talks with the U.S. said there has been “good progress” in negotiations on a final peace agreement.

According to Iran’s semi-official Tasnim News Agency on Monday, the Iranian foreign ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei said the two sides discussed releasing Tehran’s frozen assets and obtaining sanctions waivers to sell Iranian oil.

Baghaei said the two sides also agreed to prepare a mechanism for safe passage in the Strait of Hormuz, which he emphasized as important.

The spokesperson said the first day of talks lasted 18 hours, and at one point the Iranian side walked out after U.S. President Donald Trump’s threatening comments against Iran were aired on Fox News Sunday.

Baghaei said technical teams from the two sides are set to engage in further discussions this week with continued mediation by Qatar and Pakistan.
