Parliamentary cooperation will be on the agenda of a meeting between Bulgaria’s National Assembly Chair Mihaela Dotsova and North Macedonia’s Assembly President Afrim Gashi on Tuesday. He is expected to arrive in Sofia for the 13th Plenary Session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the South-East European Cooperation Process (SEECP).
Speaking at his regular weekly press briefing, Gashi said that “because of the political situation and the frequent elections in Bulgaria”, it had not been possible to build strong direct ties with the Bulgarian Parliament, and that improving communication between the two legislatures is now one of his goals.
The media in Skopje quoted Gashi as saying: “We need to talk, move forward and find a way to stand together in the EU. I believe the future, rather than the past, should unite us. That is why I am going to this meeting in a positive spirit and with a desire to help strengthen relations between the two countries and the two parliaments.”
On June 10, North Macedonia’s President Gordana Siljanovska-Davkova and Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade Minister Timco Mucunski attended the SEECP Summit in Sofia, at which Bulgaria turned over the rotating Chairmanship-in-Office to Romania.
