SIOUX CITY (KTIV) — What started as a simple Grecian dinner now draws thousands looking to experience Greek culture in Sioux City.
Friday marked opening day of the 25th Greek Fest, hosted by Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church.
Organizers say the three-day event is a chance to share Greek culture and heritage with the community, and it takes weeks of preparation to pull off.
Church members across generations spend weeks cooking, baking, setting up and creating for guests.
Organizers describe the weekend as a “labor of love” for Siouxland.
“Oh my gosh, we love it. And you know, that’s the thing about being Greek — it’s all about hospitality, all about taking care of our community, all about taking care of our neighbors, feeding, loving, just building relationships with people through love, through food, through faith,” said Greek Fest co-chair Leah Bariatakis. “We really care about Sioux City. We really care about our community.”
Admission to Greek Fest is free, and all are welcome.
The festival runs until 11 p.m. Friday, 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday, and 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday.
