SINGAPORE – The Asia leg of the World Series of Board Gaming (WSBG) tournament returns to Singapore from July 11 to July 13.
Held at the Pico Creative Centre in Kallang, the Asia satellite event is set to feature more than 200 board games, with 16 to be played competitively.
Finalists will move to the main WSBG tournament, which will take place in Las Vegas in September.
Here is a look at some board games that will be played competitively.
Ark Nova

Cascadia
How to play: Design your own terrain and populate it with wildlife from the Pacific North-west. Arrange animals and habitats in specific patterns to create wildlife corridors and score points.
How to win: Accumulate the most number of points.
Dune: Imperium – Uprising
How to play: Compete for power on fictional desert planet Arrakis. Gather spies, forge alliances and command forces.
The game is a standalone spin-off from Frank Herbert’s Dune novels and film adaptation series.
How to win: Accumulate the most number of points.
Earth
How to play: Build a self-sustaining ecosystem and complete ecological objectives. Plant, compost, water and grow resources to gain resources and generate points.
How to win: Accumulate the most number of points.
SETI
How to play: Lead a scientific organisation to search for traces of alien life. Compete to launch probes on planets, scan distant systems, and collect or research space data.

Splendor

In Splendor, players compete to establish the best jewellery business in the Renaissance era.

The White Castle

Set in Himeji Castle, players can plant workers strategically across the grounds to work and defend the area, and progress up the social ladder.

Build an avian sanctuary and connect different habitats in Wingspan.
