ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) – Summer Lectures are underway at Tinker Swiss Cottage Museum and Gardens, 411 Kent Street.

On Saturday, June 28, a lecture titled “African Americans in Early Rockford (1834-1871)” was given by Amanda Becker.
The presentation explored the work of Dr. John Molyneaux and his book about the history of African Americans in Rockford.
Lewis Lemon is well-known as the co-founder of Rockford, but this lecture sheds light on other influential figures including businessman Isaac Wilson, Reuben Armstrong, the James Williams families and others.
Summer Lectures continue through September at Tinker Swiss Cottage(WIFR)
The next Summer Lecture takes place from 2 to 4 p.m., August 9, and will explore the basics of “FamilySearch,” a tool used to explore ancestry. Jerry Moors, Treasurer of the Winnebago & Boone Counties Genealogical Society, will be presenting.
Tickets cost $10, and $5 for members. They’re available for purchase on Tinker Swiss Cottage’s website.
