Business owners along Decatur Street in the French Quarter have filed a preliminary injunction against the Sewerage and Water Board, urging changes to construction practices and closures. The injunction calls for the removal of fencing in areas where crews are not actively working on repairs. According to local businesses, no work has been done throughout the street, prompting further demands for an active construction crew to be present and working during the entire period of closures. Additionally, the injunction requests at least 72 hours’ notice before any extension of construction and closures. “We are hoping that our side streets can have more access. We have actually, since the meeting, we’ve actually lost more access to the restaurant. And a lot of other blocks. Last week, they were supposed to remove the barricades out of the 600 block, and none of that has been done. So we just wanna hold them accountable to what they say they’re gonna do” said Cristina Muralo of the Original French Market. The business owners are also seeking relief from paying water bills during the construction period for all affected restaurants and shops.
