As Dallas-Fort Worth prepares to host its first knockout-round match of this World Cup, last-minute asking prices for tickets on the secondary market have dropped significantly compared with prices for earlier matches at Dallas Stadium.
Paying a little more than $700 for Tuesday’s Ivory Coast-Norway matchup on third-party ticketing platform StubHub can get you in the door for an upper-deck seat at Dallas Stadium.
That price stands in sharp contrast to last-minute prices for Saturday’s Argentina-Jordan match. Even with questions surrounding how much Lionel Messi would play, if at all, it cost more than $2,000 for the cheapest seat and a chance to see the global superstar, according to StubHub.
The upcoming Ivory Coast-Norway game won’t lack star power. It should feature Norwegian superstar striker Erling Haaland, one of the rising stars in this edition of the World Cup and a prolific scorer for Manchester City in England’s Premier League.
Fans who won the FIFA ticketing lottery months ago had the opportunity to purchase World Cup tickets primarily in one of three price categories. Ticket buyers still didn’t know exactly what section they’d be sitting in, but FIFA provided a rough idea based on color-coded seating maps — and the prices were fixed.
With the Ivory Coast-Norway match at Dallas Stadium, those who want to make last-minute ticket purchases on the secondary market will encounter a different market. Ticket sellers are asking more, but not as much as you’d have to pay for some of the earlier matches in D-FW.
After Tuesday’s match, there will be three more World Cup matches in Arlington. On Friday, Australia plays Egypt in a round-of-32 matchup. A second-round match between opponents yet to be determined will be played July 6. And Dallas Stadium is hosting a semifinal match July 14.
