By the morning of Friday, July 3rd, the death toll from Thursday’s large-scale strike on Kyiv had risen to 30, according to Ukrainian officials. Several were also killed elsewhere in Ukraine during overnight Russian attacks, while Russian air defence systems intercepted Ukrainian drones approaching Moscow.
At least two people were killed and eight others injured in the latest overnight Russian attacks across Ukraine, according to Ukrainian authorities on Telegram. In the northeastern Sumy region, two residents died and one person was injured when a Russian drone struck a private house, stated regional military administration head Oleh Hrihorov.
In the central city of Kryvyi Rih, the hometown of President Volodymyr Zelensky, seven people were injured in a Russian missile strike on a densely populated area. Oleksandr Vilkul, head of the city’s defence council. joined local officials in reporting significant damage in the affected district following the impact.
Kyiv observed a day of mourning on Friday after at least 30 people were killed and more than 90 injured in a Russian assault on the capital in the early hours of Thursday. According to the Ukrainian air force, Russia deployed around 570 aerial assets during the attack, including approximately 500 drones, in one of the largest strikes in recent weeks.
Meanwhile, Moscow mayor Sergei Sobyanin said air defence units shot down four Ukrainian drones approaching Moscow overnight and into the early morning hours. He did not provide further details. Temporary flight restrictions were imposed at Vnukovo airport during the early hours as a precaution.
