Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has signaled a potential turning point in the conflict with Russia, declaring there is a “real prospect” to bring the war to an end following a highly productive phone conversation with US President Donald Trump.
The call took place on Saturday, timed with Zelenskyy offering congratulations to Trump and the American people on the historic 250th anniversary of US independence. Beyond holiday well-wishes, the two leaders held a serious, strategic discussion covering the 1,200-kilometer front line in Ukraine as well as ongoing international diplomatic efforts, News.Az reports, citing RBC-Ukraine.
Zelenskyy heavily emphasized that Washington’s long-term resolve will play a decisive role in resolving the conflict, expressing deep gratitude for the continuous political and military aid—ranging from Javelins to Patriot missile systems—that the US has provided over the years.
The conversation is set to translate into face-to-face action very soon. The two presidents agreed to continue their talks in person at the upcoming NATO summit in Ankara, Turkiye.
This latest development follows their last meeting at the G7 summit, where Trump reportedly voiced admiration for Ukraine’s strategic, deep-strike operations inside Russian territory and publicly noted that Ukraine was performing remarkably well despite facing a much larger adversary.
