July 7 – A defendant whom the
prosecutors emphasized was an
armed career criminal now
charged with gun sales was the
subject of a bail fight on
July 7 in the U.S. District
Court for the Southern
District of New York
Magistrates Court. Inner City
Press was the only media
there, and live tweeted it:
AUSA: He’s 30 years old and has seven
felony convictions, six in New York, one in
Connecticut. Under 924(e) he faces 15 year
minimum, so has incentive to flee to
Albania. Defense: He’s lived in the
same address for 19 years. His parents are
supers in the building. He’s his mother’s home
health aide. He’s been clean 11 years
Judge: What about his offer to commit
burglary? Defense: People brag in the street
all the time.
Judge: When was he incarcerated? Defense: From
2018 to 2023. Judge: I can’t give him credit
for no burglary during those years… I am
detaining him.
