Speaker of Azerbaijan’s Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova met with President of the Slovak Republic Peter Pellegrini, who is on an official visit to the country, the Press and Public Relations Department of the Milli Majlis told APA.
The sides noted the importance of cooperation in the humanitarian sphere, particularly in the fields of education and culture. It was stated that these areas play an important role in strengthening mutual understanding and friendly relations between the two peoples. The opening of direct flights between Baku and Bratislava starting in October this year was emphasized as making a significant contribution to the development of ties between the two peoples and the creation of new opportunities for cooperation.
During the meeting, the importance of relations between the interparliamentary friendship groups was also highlighted, and it was noted that expanding cooperation between the relevant parliamentary committees and further developing interaction within the framework of international parliamentary organizations is essential.
Speaking about the peace process between Azerbaijan and Armenia, Speaker of the Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova also highly appreciated Slovakia’s contribution to the reconstruction of Karabakh. She stated that the “smart village” project implemented by a Slovak company in Bash Garvand village of the Aghdam district is a clear example of successful practical cooperation between the two countries. It was noted that the secondary school whose foundation was laid yesterday in the city of Aghdam with the participation of the presidents of the two countries will become another symbol of friendship between Azerbaijan and Slovakia.
Recalling with satisfaction the meetings he had held with the Speaker of the Milli Majlis on various occasions, the distinguished guest touched upon the importance of interparliamentary cooperation and stressed the need to further develop relations between the relevant parliamentary committees. At the end of the meeting, he once again invited the Speaker of the Milli Majlis to pay an official visit to Slovakia.
The sides also exchanged views on other issues of mutual interest.
