TRAVERSE CITY, Mich. (WPBN/WGTU) — A downtown Traverse City business owner is facing six felony charges after a child porn investigation involving more than 8,000 images and videos.
Jason Wayne Redman, 55, was arrested at his business Wednesday.
Redman was arraigned on the following charges Thursday:
- Aggravated Child Sexually Abusive Material
- Aggravated Child Sexually Abusive Material
- Aggravated Child Sexually Abusive Material
- Using Computer to Commit a Crime
- Weapons Offense
- Firearm Purchase Without a License
The investigation began February 18 when detectives with the Traverse City Police Department met with the Michigan State Police Computer Crimes Unit.
During the meeting, detectives were made aware of several tips received through the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) regarding suspected child sexual abuse material, according to the police report.
According to the information provided, the tips indicated that the suspected activity was linked to an individual believed to be operating within the city limits of Traverse City.
Following an investigation that included the execution of several search warrants, detectives identified the suspect as Jason Wayne Redman.
Detectives obtained search warrants which were executed on May 8 at Redman’s home and business.
During the search, detectives seized numerous electronic devices, which were submitted for forensic examination to the Michigan State Police Computer Crimes Unit. Investigators also recovered an unregistered and undocumented firearm.
The forensic examination of the seized electronic devices identified approximately 8,000 images and videos of suspected child sexual abuse material, according to police.
Redman is being held on $50,000 bond. He is scheduled to be back in court for a preliminary exam on August 13.
