HINES(Released from Mallory National Forest)-The Emigrant Creek Ranger District, Malheur National Forest received multiple new fires yesterday resulted from thunderstorms, several of which have been contained and controlled. Two incidents that have experienced active fire behavior and large growth are the Egypt Fire and the Stone Creek Fire.
Egypt Fire:
Size: estimated 2,355 acres Location: 13 miles N of Riley, OR Start Date: July 16, 2026
Containment: 0% Cause: Lightning
Update: Crews conducted firing operations last night to control fire spread to the east. Today crews are focused on maintaining lines established last night and building containment lines on the north side of the fire. A Complex Incident Management Team (CIMT)has been ordered.
Closure: Egypt Fire: FSR 41 Road Closure 06-04-02-26-12 is in place effective July 17, 2026. For more information visit the Malheur National Forest Alerts page.
Stone Creek Fire:
Size: 90 acres Location: 2.8 miles NW of Delintment Lake Start Date: July 15, 2026
Containment: 0% Cause: Lightning
Update: During initial attack crews have been able to establish control lines around the fire and continue working on improving containment lines today.
Safety: There are Temporary Flight Restriction (TFRs) in place around the fire. Please remember that if you fly, we can’t – so keep personal unmanned aircraft (UAS) out of the air within the TFR.
