Alibaba, one of China’s leading artificial intelligence (AI) companies, has announced that it will soon unveil the world’s best model “Qwen 3.8.” It is only two days after artificial intelligence (AI) startup Moonshot AI unveiled a model called “Kimi K3” with Claude and GPT-class performance.

Alibaba announced on its social media X (X) account on the 19th that “Q1 3.8 will be released soon and will be released as an open weight.”

Alibaba did not disclose performance indicators such as Q1 3.8’s benchmark score, but said, “It will be one of the most powerful models available at this point,” adding, “It is second in performance after (Antropic’s) Fable 5.” It also pre-released its pre-released version of the “Q1 3.8 Max Preview” model through the Alibaba platform.

Q1 3.8 is expected to be a super-large model consisting of 2.4 trillion parameters. It is also an open weight model that discloses model weights so that third parties can download and write the model.

Alibaba’s Q1 is considered a major player in the open-source AI camp, which has consistently unveiled its model with open weights. However, this year, as China’s ZpuAI released “GLM-5.2” and Moonshot AI released “Kimi K3,” competition among China’s open weight models is also intensifying.

Some analysts say that Alibaba’s Q1 3.8 just two months after announcing Q1 3.7 in May is aimed at checking Kimi K3. This is because Kimi K3 is drawing attention as it is evaluated as close to Antropic and OpenAI models immediately after its launch.

According to the intelligence index of AI evaluator Artificial Analytics, Kimi K3 leads China’s open weight model with 57 points, followed by GLM-5.2 with 51 points. Alibaba’s Q1 3.7 has a 46-point rating. Antropic’s Fable 5 has 60 points and OpenAI’s GPT-5.6 has 59 points.
