Precipitation will begin to spread across the country from the south in the morning. Heavy rain with thunderstorms is expected in many areas, and the sky will be completely overcast throughout the day.
The air temperature will remain relatively high, ranging from +17 degrees in southern Kurzeme to +25 degrees in some areas of Latgale and the eastern part of Vidzeme. The wind will generally be weak, but on the coast of Northern Kurzeme, gusts of northeast wind may reach up to 16 meters per second.
In Riga, rain is forecasted for the afternoon. Meteorologists do not rule out heavy rain and thunderstorms, while the air is expected to warm up to about +22 degrees before the precipitation begins.
The cause of the worsening weather will be a cyclone approaching Latvia from the south. It will bring the most intense precipitation throughout the day.
The most difficult situation is expected in Kurzeme and northern Vidzeme. For these regions, the Latvian Environment, Geology and Meteorology Centre has issued an orange warning, which will be in effect from 11:00 AM until midnight.
This means that heavy precipitation may lead not only to local inconveniences but also to disruptions in infrastructure. Flooding of low-lying areas and riverbanks, overflow of stormwater drainage systems, road washouts, and worsening road conditions due to poor visibility and aquaplaning are possible.
In some places, interruptions in electricity supply, water supply, and communication are not excluded. During heavy rain, drivers should be especially cautious, and residents should keep an eye on updates to forecasts and warnings.
In case of dangerous situations, residents are urged to immediately contact emergency services at 112. If the forecasts are accurate, Monday could become one of the rainiest days in recent weeks.
