A Lithuanian security adviser warned NATO could send extra troops and air-defence systems if Russian provocations push the region into a critical security situation.
In Lithuania, there is confidence that in the event of an escalation due to Russian provocations, NATO could deploy additional military units in this Baltic country. This position was expressed by Deividas Matulionis, the Lithuanian president’s chief adviser on national security; the information was reported by Lithuanian radio LRT.

NATO countries will deploy additional military capabilities in Lithuania if Russian provocations in the region create a critical security situation.

The Alliance is taking warnings about rising risks of Russian provocations in the Baltic region and other parts of Europe in the coming months seriously, Matulionis said.
We have issued a warning, and the Alliance is taking it very seriously. If all indicators show that the situation is critical, I have no doubt that additional forces and air defense assets will be allocated.

Matulionis noted that Russian provocations can take various forms – from so-called false-flag operations aimed at shifting the blame onto Ukraine, to acts of sabotage that have been observed across the European continent in recent years. According to him, the threat goes beyond the Baltic region and affects other countries that actively support Ukraine.
Of course, there is no information about a buildup of troops on our border, so the question of a military invasion is ruled out. The probability here is practically zero.

He stressed that the Lithuanian authorities are taking all necessary measures to prevent such actions on the country’s territory.
Additionally, it is known that Latvia’s President Edgars Rinkēvičs stated that there is intelligence data regarding possible provocations by the Russian Federation against the Baltic states.
In the context of strengthening security, Lithuania relies on coordination with NATO and on allied support in the event of a worsening situation due to provocations from Russia. Such signals underscore the alliance’s readiness to respond to potential threats and maintain stability in the region.
