MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) – The bond has been raised for a man who has been arrested for making threats to harm people at Temple Israel and the Crosstown Concourse, according to the Memphis Police Department.
Jason Arrington, 21, has been charged with making threats of mass violence after an incident on July 17.
Arrington is in custody, and he was originally booked on a $10,000 bond. It has since been raised to $50,000.
He has been assigned a public defender and is pending a mental evaluation on August 5.
His next court appearance is set for August 8.
According to police records, Arrington sent a text message threat to a family member stating that he waws going to go, “to Temple Israel, where he works, with a rifle and shoot the Jews.”
This text message said that he would also, “go to the Crosstown Concourse in Memphis and start shooting people, until police killed him,” according to an affidavit.
This family member alerted Temple Israel to the threat and the synagogue contacted Memphis Police. When Memphis police arrived on scene, they arrested Arrington and took him into custody without incident.
