WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) — Another business on East 21st Street North was broken into early Thursday morning, continuing a string of break-ins along the same stretch of road in northeast Wichita.
Two men were captured on video attempting to break into Da Liq Liquor Store, one day after a restaurant reported a similar crime.
Tyreec Washington, who owns Da Liq, said the break-in came as a surprise.
“My reaction was just simply I couldn’t believe it at first, it happened in the past, it hasn’t happened in quite a while and honestly I didn’t think that anybody would try to attempt that so it was a little bit shocking for me, a little bit disturbing,” Washington said.
Washington said he is not concerned about the incident becoming a repeated problem, and that the suspects did not get inside the building.
Da Liq also posted a video to Facebook responding to the incident with humor directed at the suspects.
“That’s okay, that’s a good way to expose these guys but also bring a little humor to the situation cause again they did not get in the building so I’m not really worried, we didn’t lose anything,” Washington said.
Washington said his primary concern is for other businesses nearby.
“You know, seeing that kind of scares a lot of people around us and I hope nobody else has to deal with that,” he said.
Washington said the only out-of-pocket expense from the break-in attempt is replacing the damaged glass.
“At the end of the day, you gotta pay for it, nobody really cares about it other than me so I got to get it fixed and whatever it’s going to cost is what I’m going to have to pay,” he said.
