Lando Norris secured pole position for the Hungarian Grand Prix, defeating Lewis Hamilton by the finest of margins.

The seven-time world champion delivered an excellent 1:17.219 which looked enough for pole, but Norris’ final attempt was 0.012s quicker.

However, Hamilton was soon issued a three-place grid penalty for an impeding incident, dropping him to fifth on Sunday’s starting grid.

Hamilton’s team-mate Charles Leclerc was third ahead of Kimi Antonelli, with the latter complaining of little grip.

Antonelli was also handed a grid penalty, with his offence relating to a yellow flag infringement.

Oscar Piastri completed the top five ahead of Max Verstappen and George Russell, who had separate issues in the final part of qualifying.
