FAIR HILL — Two acts that have never been to the Cecil County Fair before are entertaining fairgoers with flashy tricks and speedy pigs.
Scott & Ana have brought their World of Magic Show and can be seen on their stage at the grandstands. Next door, fairgoers will find The All American Pig Races.
“Almost every trick we do involves the kids in some special way,” said Dale Scott. “Kids from 2 to 92 like it.”
Scott said for the youngsters, who are invited to sit up close to the stage, this may be their first time seeing a magic act.
“They’re going to remember this magic show,” he said. “The excitement on all the kids faces says it all.”
It’s a show that has been around the globe five times and most of the 50 states.
Charles Beam has been presenting the All American Pig Races for 20 years. His performing pigs include a healthy pair of Vietnamese Pot Bellied pigs and an assortment of hand-raised piglets born on his farm in Ridgeland, S.C.
Beam said the young pigs are quickly trained to bolt from the starting line and race around the track at top speed. His secret weapon for training the pigs? Oreos.
“I start with nine pans of Oreos around the track,” he said of a piglet’s first time in the track.
After every lap, the pans of the popular chocolate cookies with cream centers are refilled but he removes one.
“The more you take away, the faster they get,” Beam said.
After each show at the fair, the public gets a chance to hold a baby pig and take pictures.
At Scott & Ana’s World of Magic youngsters eagerly volunteer to come to the stage and be part of the magic. At the end of each show, youngsters are invited to purchase a magic wand and start their own efforts at sleight of hand.
Both shows run several times each day and are included in the cost of admission to the Cecil County Fair.
