A woman says her husband was detained unexpectedly during an ICE check-in on Sunday, July 26.
MALTA, N.Y. (WNYT)- A Malta check-in ended with a 63-year-old man being taken into custody, leaving his wife waiting for answers.

Jean Aurilio said her husband of three years, 63-year-old Jesus Carrion, got a text telling him to bring all his paperwork and all of his family members to the ICE facility in Malta on Sunday, July 26. Aurilio said a Sunday check-in was unusual, but said they had been following all requirements and rules.
When they arrived, Aurilio said the parking lot was packed and they were told interviews were happening every 15 minutes. She said they thought ICE might want to meet with her as Carrion’s wife and sponsor for asylum.
Aurilio said she was then told Carrion would be kept in custody and sent to the detention center in Batavia. She said he might see a judge in two weeks.
Aurilio is an American citizen and a teacher. She also has a son who is a colonel in the Air Force.
“Yes, it’s very scary. I was told I would receive a phone call from him yesterday and I never did,” Aurilio said. “So, I’m still waiting for that.”
“The ice agent told me that I would be getting some information from someone telling me the status and what’s happening.” Aurilio said. “But if it’s going to take two weeks or so, I’m just lost as to what to do.”
Aurilio said she is upset and worried about her husband as she waits for more information on his status.
