JACKSON, Mich. (News 10) – Consumers Energy donated a new, fully electric Meals on Wheels delivery van to Jackson County on Tuesday, and the vehicle is already in service delivering hot meals to homebound seniors.
Danielle Pequet, director of the Jackson County Office on Aging, said the donation will have a lasting impact on the program.
“When you think about the older adult population and how quickly it’s growing, having a donation like this will definitely support us long-term, as we usually keep our vans for about 10, 12 years,” Pequet said. “So this is a long-term investment in what we can offer in the community.”
Who qualifies for Meals on Wheels
To qualify for Meals on Wheels, residents generally need to be 60 or older and homebound. Eligibility requirements can vary. Residents are encouraged to contact their local Office on Aging for details.
