Greece travel demand surges 72% following ‘The Odyssey’ release

Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey isn’t just dominating the box office – it’s driving the travel trends too.
New data from the travel connectivity brand Holafly reveals a massive spike in travel interest to Greece following the film’s release:

Holafly recorded a 72% year-on-year increase in Greece eSIM plans over the last week – outpacing global growth (38%) by nearly double across more than 160 destinations
Additionally, Google searches for “Flights to Kalamata” (the gateway to the film’s main Peloponnese filming locations) surged by +5,000% in July YoY
Whilst Greece has always been a popular summer destination in Europe, this figure highlights a significant trend as travel eSIM adoption is experiencing rapid, mainstream growth, and international interest in Greece has increased at almost twice the YoY rate.

Daniela Prado, Brand Director at Holafly, comments:

“Major film releases have the power to transform the way travellers discover destinations, and Greece has long been a perfect example of how storytelling can inspire real-world exploration. While seasonal travel patterns and the growing popularity of eSIM technology are contributing to increased demand, the sharp rise in interest around specific The Odyssey filming locations in the Peloponnese suggests that travellers are increasingly looking to experience the places they see on screen.

As more people turn cinematic moments into real-life itineraries, staying connected has become an essential part of the journey, whether that’s sharing a view from Voidokilia Beach, navigating historic sites or discovering lesser-known corners of Greece.”
