The Korea Baseball Organization(KBO) will hold an emergency meeting on Thursday to discuss how to cope with the extreme heat sweeping across the country.
The KBO said Wednesday that officials from all ten clubs and the Korea Professional Baseball Players Association will attend the meeting to address the safety risks for spectators and players.
It added that it will review its comprehensive operating guidelines and safety measures, with safety as the top priority.
The organization decided to cancel all first- and second-tier professional baseball games scheduled for Wednesday and Thursday until a new heat wave response plan is established.
The cancellations bring the number of games called off due to extreme heat this season to 15, while the total number of postponed or canceled games, including those affected by rain, stands at 40.
On Tuesday, the KBO said games will be canceled before 1 p.m. if the weather agency issues its highest-level extreme heat warning.
The warning is reserved for days when the maximum feels-like temperature has remained at or above 35 degrees Celsius for two days and the heat index is 38 degrees or higher, or where daytime highs are expected to reach at least 39 degrees.
