Greenvolt Power has agreed to sell the 57.47 MW Kira solar project in southern Hungary to PPC Group for €64.2 million. The deal, expected to close before the end of 2026, includes an option for the buyer to acquire a co-located 49.1 MW/196.2 MWh battery energy storage system (BESS) if it reaches ready-to-build (RTB) status.
The solar plant reached commercial operation in July 2024 and operates under Hungary’s KÁT feed-in tariff scheme, which provides 25 years of fixed-price support. The project also has €35.5 million in project finance.
If acquired, the BESS would complement the solar plant by enabling energy arbitrage, providing grid flexibility services and improving utilization of the existing grid connection.
Separately, Greenvolt Power has commissioned the Turośń Kościelna battery energy storage facility near Białystok in northeastern Poland. The project has a power rating of 200 MW and storage capacity of 800 MWh, making it one of the country’s largest operational BESS projects, according to the company.
The four-hour system uses lithium iron phosphate (LFP) batteries and is connected to Poland’s transmission network through a 110 kV substation.
From 2028, the facility will operate under a 17-year capacity market contract requiring it to provide 170 MW, equivalent to 85% of its rated power.
The capacity agreement provides an additional revenue stream by paying for the availability of firm capacity rather than charge-discharge cycles, improving the bankability of large-scale battery storage projects.
