WASHINGTON (Valley News Live) — The IRS has added new features to its Business Tax Account platform, giving eligible businesses and organizations more ways to manage their federal tax obligations online without calling the agency or visiting a physical office.
Business Tax Account is an online self-service platform that allows authorized users to access and manage federal tax records. The IRS has been steadily expanding the platform as part of a broader push to reduce paper-based processes.
What’s new
Several new features have been added to the platform this year:
- Digital notices: Users now have access to an expanding library of digital IRS notices, including the CP081B refund notice, the CP211A extension approval notice, the CP134R federal tax deposits discrepancy notice and more.
- EIN verification download: Designated officials can now download the CP575 EIN verification notice, which can be used in place of Letter 147C at banks and financial institutions.
- Payment plan management: Users can now view an existing payment plan’s balance and details and make payments toward it online.
- Offer in Compromise payments: Eligible taxpayers can submit payments toward an Offer in Compromise to settle tax debts for less than the full amount owed.
Who can use it
Business Tax Account currently supports sole proprietors with an EIN, individual partners and shareholders with a Schedule K-1 on file, S corporations, C corporations, federal and state and local governments, Indian tribal governments and tax-exempt organizations.
What users can already do
Depending on business type and role, existing BTA users can view and make payments toward a balance due, schedule payments up to a year in advance, store multiple bank accounts in an online wallet, request a tax compliance check, view and download transcripts, and give account access to eligible employees.
More information on eligibility and registration is available on the IRS website.
