Colleges are reviving proctored exams, blue books and oral assessments as they try to determine whether students are learning or merely using artificial intelligence to generate finished work. This fall, the University of Chicago Law School will pilot a general prohibition, with limited exceptions, on electronic devices in core first-year classes. Such measures can deter cheating and help professors see what students can do without AI.
