MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) – Meta has released “Muse Glimmer,” a new 30-billion-parameter artificial intelligence model capable of running locally on standard Mac or PC hardware with a single consumer graphics card.
The open-source model can be downloaded, modified, and used entirely offline, eliminating the need for an active internet connection or a paid subscription.
Running AI models locally offers significant privacy advantages. While digital assistants managing calendars, drafting messages, and organizing files typically require deep access to personal data, a local model keeps that sensitive information stored securely on the user’s device rather than sending it to external cloud servers.
According to Meta, Muse Glimmer is tailored specifically for multi-step “agentic” tasks, such as writing and debugging code, executing software tools, and interpreting screenshots or documents. Meta reports the model performs competitively with leading models of a similar size and was trained using its larger flagship model, Muse Spark, as a teacher.
