Attorney general says Duke Energy Progress customers could see 9.3% rate increase

RALEIGH, N.C. (WITN) – Attorney General Jeff Jackson says Duke Energy Progress customers could see a larger rate increase than the company testified to.

Jackson says North Carolina Duke Energy President Kendal Bowman testified Tuesday that customers would pay about 6.8% more over the next two years.

However, the state Department of Justice estimates the actual increase would be about 9.3%.

Duke originally asked for an 18.1% increase before settling with the North Carolina Public Staff and others last week.

The North Carolina Utilities Commission will decide whether to approve the settlement. If approved, new rates would begin Jan. 1, 2027.
