It appears that the club is reportedly closing in on a move for Korea’s Kim Min-su. This is somebody that fans simply hadn’t heard of. But following the unexpected and mild success thus far of Daisuke Yokota of Japan, Rangers have decided to replicate that by going for a second division Spanish-based winger from Asia. Rangers target Korea’s Kim as a left winger.
Rangers look to Asia again
As we all know, of course, Yokota was a 2. Bundesliga player. That is to say, he played for Hannover, for whom he performed fairly well, while Rangers targeted the Japanese attacker.
As a result, Rangers are intending to move for another Asian winger. It appears to be a bit of a poor man’s copy of what Celtic did all those years ago, with all the expensive players from the top levels of Korean and Japanese football.
The inexplicable part of this one is that Rangers would be paying £8M for this guy.
He has around a €10M to €12M escape clause in his deal, and Rangers are interested in releasing that.
Kim Min-su’s numbers
He is a left winger, and his numbers for Girona in La Liga 2 are not exactly spectacular. They are less impressive than Yokota’s were for Hannover.
Yokota, of course, has had a good start to his time at Ibrox. We are not going to dismiss the Japanese winger’s impact thus far.
He has definitely impressed, and we so far appear to be fairly happy with what he seems to be. His assist against Jablonec was impressive.
However, around £10M for a second division Korean winger, albeit Rangers do need balance on that left side, is a puzzling direction if indeed the club is to release that clause.
It does seem like a bit of a mild panic signing.
Rangers’ transfer market
But, of course, we do know that of the big five leagues, the second divisions aren’t all that bad, to say the least. They are pretty strong.
The fact is, that’s the market that Rangers generally seem to be shopping in. It is Championship level.
Yes, one or two players do come from Premier League teams or top flight teams. But, of course, they are surplus players, even if they are pretty decent.
We are, of course, fairly happy, to say the least, with Aston Villa right back Kosta Nedeljković. He would be a Premier League player, but he has a great CV.
Rangers desperately need a left winger
This chap from second division Spain doesn’t have quite the same CV. 16 goals and assists in 57 over his career isn’t blowing us away.
We’ll look more into what he can offer, but it is a very curious one to ship out this amount of cash for his services. Quite frankly, we’re not sure that the CV justifies it at all.
But that said, we do desperately need a left winger hence Rangers target Korea’s Kim.
