A busy diplomatic day in Kyiv brought fresh attention to a partnership that reaches beyond military aid, with energy resilience and investment protection also on the agenda.
Ukrainian Prime Minister Serhiy Koretskyi and Estonian Prime Minister Kristen Michal held a meeting in Kyiv focused on developing bilateral partnership. The sides paid particular attention to cooperation in defense, energy, and logistics.
Serhiy Koretskyi noted on Facebook that the talks also covered options for introducing war-risk insurance mechanisms.
Estonia’s Support for Ukraine
The head of the Ukrainian government thanked Estonia for its unwavering support for Ukraine since the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion. According to Koretskyi, Tallinn allocates more than 0.25% of its GDP annually to assist Ukraine.
Estonia has also contributed €2.8 million to the Ukraine Energy Support Fund. The funds are being used to strengthen the resilience of Ukraine’s energy system amid Russian attacks.
Serhiy Koretskyi also highlighted Estonia’s involvement in rebuilding social and infrastructure facilities in the Zhytomyr region. He also thanked the Estonian side for its leading role in the IT Coalition.
Partners Visit Kyiv on State Flag Day
On August 23, when Ukraine celebrates State Flag Day, the presidents of Finland and Lithuania, Alexander Stubb and Gitanas Nausėda, also arrived in Kyiv.
They were joined in the capital by the prime ministers of Denmark, Norway, Estonia, and Latvia – Mette Frederiksen, Jonas Gahr Støre, Kristen Michal, and Andris Kulbergs. Talks with international partners concern continued support for Ukraine and the development of joint projects.
