When Netflix‘s live-action adaptation of One Piece premiered back in 2023, it managed to do the unthinkable: satiate longtime fans of the beloved manga and anime series and create an all-new storytelling experience.
Young actor Iñaki Godoy confidently took up the helm as Monkey D. Luffy, assembling the crew he needed to find the highly coveted One Piece treasure. After season 1 ended with the Straw Hat Pirates heading towards the Grand Line for more adventures, season 2 saw them bound for Whiskey Peak and Little Island. New cast additions included Katey Sagal as Dr. Kureha, David Dastmalchian as Mr. 3, and Joe Manganiello as Mr. 0.
So, where did season 2 leave the Straw Hats? And is Luffy closer to becoming King of the Pirates? Ahead, we break down everything we know about the future of One Piece, and whether it’s getting a third season.
Is there going to be a One Piece season 3?

Yes, in August 2025, roughly seven months before the premiere of season 2, One Piece received an early renewal. By November that same year, Netflix announced that production on season 3 was underway; as of August 2026, filming has wrapped.
How did One Piece season 2 end?

On behalf of Baroque Works, King Wapol (Rob Colletti) returned to both reclaim the throne of Drum Island and capture Princess Nefertari Vivi (Charithra Chandran) of Alabasta. Gaining supernatural powers via a devil fruit — which once gave Luffy his elasticity powers — Wapol uses his new transformative abilities to create an army of monsters
Wapol clashes with Luffy, Nami (Emily Rudd), Tony Tony Chopper (Mikaela Hoover), Sanji (Taz Skylar) and Vivi in his efforts to capture the princess. While Sanji and Chopper fight off various henchmen, Luffy battles Wapol and eventually beats him with Sanj’s help. Zoro (Mackenyu) and Usopp (Jacob Romero) struggle against Wapol’s monster army in the village, but once the villain is dead, his soldiers revert back to their normal human forms as doctors on Drum Island.
Though the pirates and villagers celebrate the defeat of Wapol, One Piece season 2 ends with Luffy agreeing to help Princess Vivi, whose homeland of Alabasta is the target of a dangerous plot hatched by Baroque Works.
Who’s joining the One Piece season 3 cast?

All the Straw Hat Pirates will be returning for season 3, which includes Godoy as Monkey D. Luffy, Mackenyu as Zoro, Rudd as Nami, Romero as Usopp, and Skylar as Sanji. Additionally, several season 2 newcomers will be sticking around, including Chandran as Princess Vivi, Hoover as Tony Tony Chopper, Manganiello as Mr. 0, Lera Abova as Miss All Sunday, and Sendhil Ramamurthy as Alabasta King Nefertari Cobra; the latter four actors have all been upgraded to series regulars.
New additions for season 3 are Emilio Sakraya as Koza, Omid Abtahi as Toto, Jamie Ward as Pell, and Nabeel Khan as Chaka. Tony Award-winning performer Cole Escola also joins the series as theatrical assassin Bon Clay, alongside Xolo Maridueña as Portgas D. Ace, Daisy Head as Baroque Works agent Miss Doublefinger, and Awdo Awdo as Mr. 1.
What is One Piece season 3 about?

Per the official logline for season 3, and considering where season 2 leaves off, it looks like One Piece is gearing up for a showdown against the nefarious Baroque Works.
A rebellion “threatens to tear [Alabasta] apart, fueled in secret by one of the Seven Warlords of the Sea, the ruthless Sir Crocodile, and his underground syndicate Baroque Works, who seek to conquer Alabasta for themselves.” The logline continues, “In a season defined by unbreakable bonds and impossible choices, the Straw Hats must face a brewing civil war and a powerful warlord to save Vivi’s kingdom before it crumbles into the sand.”
When does One Piece season 3 premiere?
