After leaving government, the former minister is turning to Silicon Valley and Washington for backing for an ambitious wartime technology project.
Former Ukrainian Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov plans to seek investment in the United States for a defense technology fund. He said this in an interview.
Christopher Miller wrote about this on X.
According to Fedorov’s plan, the fund will create and manage companies developing new types of weapons for the war against Russia. He expects the initiative to help open a “new chapter” in defense technology.
At the same time, Fedorov did not clarify whether he would benefit financially from the fund’s activities. He also did not disclose details about his possible influence over its management.
According to reports citing sources, after meeting with Italian Defense Minister Guido Crosetto, Mykhailo Fedorov traveled to Washington.
Fedorov’s Work at the Ministry of Defense
Mykhailo Fedorov headed the Ministry of Defense from January to July 2026. Following a government reshuffle, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy appointed Yevhen Khmara as acting defense minister, and the Verkhovna Rada later confirmed him in the post.
I do not usually meet with people four times to offer them a job. Mykhailo turned down all four offers. Well, that is his choice.
– Volodymyr Zelenskyy
Volodymyr Zelenskyy linked Fedorov’s resignation to a conflict between him and Commander-in-Chief Oleksandr Syrskyi. Fedorov himself stressed that he would not agree to any position other than that of defense minister.
At the end of August, Yevhen Khmara said that he had met with Fedorov in July and proposed determining a format for further joint work on projects. According to him, he did not offer any specific positions and had not received a response from Fedorov at that time.
