Newcode, an Oslo-based legal AI company that sells law firms a configurable AI harness rather than a finished assistant, has raised a Series A led by OnDean Forward, the investment firm founded by Relativity founder Andrew Sieja.
The round brings the company’s total capital raised this year to $20 million and will fund its expansion into the United States, the company announced Aug. 24.
Although the announcement did not say how much Newcode raised in this latest round, it had raised $6.5 million earlier this year, indicating that this round was $13.5 million.
Also participating in the round were The LegalTech Fund, Antiportfolio Ventures, Relativity’s investment arm Rel Labs, and existing investors.

Newcode describes its product as built around the core belief ithat law firms should be in control of their AI capabilities, allowing them to build on their strengths and deepen their competitive advantages.
It targets firms that are moving beyond the first wave of legal AI — chat interfaces and point solutions — toward AI-native operating models that securely connect institutional knowledge, workflows, systems of record, and professional judgment into their own internal intelligence layer.
“The AI revolution is ultimately a great thing for law firms,” said Maged Helmy, founder and CEO of Newcode. “But to transform to AI-native, the legal market needs control and flexibility. Our mission is to help firms build AI capabilities that are truly their own.”
A common analogy for describing an AI harness is to think of the AI as an automobile engine and the harness as the vehicle, steering, dashboard, brakes, and other parts that let you use that engine productively.
Newcode says its harness approach is organized around four capabilities:
- Connect. Newcode claims to have more than 700 MCP connections and a comprehensive API to enable firms to link to any data source.
- Contextualize. Newcode has built a proprietary agentic retrieval system that spans a firm’s own documents and data, and that becomes more intelligent as the firm acquires and adds new information.
- Create. Law firms can build workflows across data sources or by accessing Newcode through frontier models.
- Control. Firms can set granular permissions, choose cloud or local deployment options, and have the ability to use whatever LLM and interface they prefer.
It is unclear from the announcement what those 700 MCP connections consist of. Over the past year, a number of legal tech companies have rolled out MCP integrations, including Thomson Reuters, NetDocuments and the Free Law Project, and DeepJudge recently proposed a protocol for handing users and context between AI products.
Newcode says its growth has accelerated sharply in 2026. It says it now serves more than 60 law firms and government agencies across Europe and the United States, and that annual recurring revenue has more than tripled in the last 12 months.
Among the new customers it names is The Bar of Ireland, which provides support to more than 2,150 barristers across that country. Earlier reporting about the company identified DLA Piper as a customer.
Newcode says it deliberately assembled a group of investors and advisors with a narrow focus on the legal market and with decades of experience building businesses, leading top firms, and deploying enterprise tech to law firms, government agencies, and companies in heavily regulated industries.
“We spend a lot of time with law firm leaders and heads of in-house legal teams,” said Zach Posner, managing partner at The LegalTech Fund. “They are consistent on one point: they want AI platforms that adapt to how they operate, not platforms that force them to adapt.”
The investment will support Newcode’s U.S. expansion, including customer support, product development, go-to-market, and strategic partnerships across the AmLaw 200 and broader legal ecosystem.
