SPOKANE VALLEY, Wash. — The Spokane County Sheriff’s Office said a man released from jail on his own recognizance on August 31, 2026, was arrested again hours later after a string of calls from businesses on South Geiger Boulevard.
Deputies said 43-year-old Dane D. Riffe was released from jail at about 6:00 p.m. on a felony burglary charge and a misdemeanor theft charge. The sheriff’s office said he had been in custody since August 28, 2026, after an earlier arrest in Spokane Valley.
According to the sheriff’s office, that earlier case involved an allegation that Riffe tried to leave a store where he had already been trespassed without paying for food he ate and products he used while inside.
The first new call came at about 11:10 p.m. in the 3700 block of S. Geiger Boulevard. Deputies said an employee reported Riffe was loitering and bothering customers, but did not want to press charges at that point.
About an hour later, the same business called again to report he had returned. Deputies arrived, but the sheriff’s office said Riffe had already left and was last seen heading east.
Deputies then spoke with workers at nearby businesses who reported Riffe had been going in and out of their locations through the night. Employees warned him to leave and told him law enforcement would be called if he did not.
Deputies later found Riffe and confirmed who he was. At one business, an employee trespassed him from the property and told him he could be arrested if he came back.
At about 2:40 a.m., deputies returned to the same area after another business said Riffe had come back and they wanted him gone. The sheriff’s office said that business also trespassed him and warned him he would be arrested if he returned.
A short time later, deputies responded to a third business where employees said Riffe went inside and would not leave. Workers there also trespassed him before he left, according to the sheriff’s office.
Deputies stayed in the area because they expected more calls. At about 4:20 a.m., they were called back to the original business after employees reported Riffe had returned again and would not leave.
When deputies got there, employees said Riffe had just walked out. Deputies found him in the parking lot on the same property where he had already been trespassed and arrested him for first-degree criminal trespass.
The sheriff’s office said deputies booked Riffe back into the Spokane County Jail.
