In Finland, nearly 90% of respondents believe that the country’s economy urgently needs new companies that are growing. At the same time, fewer than one-third of respondents find engaging in entrepreneurship personally attractive, YLE News reports, citing an EVA survey.
Financial risks
Nearly three-quarters of survey participants said that the financial risks associated with entrepreneurship are too high. More than half agreed with the statement that, due to substantial payments and risks, only a reckless person would choose running their own business over stable paid employment. Among entrepreneurs themselves, more than 60% of respondents share this view.
Entrepreneurship is particularly unattractive to women: just over one-fifth of female respondents consider it appealing. Among men, the figure was 36%. EVA’s leading tax expert, Emmiliina Kujanpää, noted that women more often emphasize the workload and financial risk associated with entrepreneurship.

Taxes and pension contributions
Nearly 60% of survey participants supported the idea that entrepreneurs should independently determine the amount of their own pension contributions and future pension. More than half of respondents consider taxes and other mandatory payments for entrepreneurs excessive. Among entrepreneurs, 70% of respondents hold this position.
Half of participants also considered it justified to continue taking entrepreneurial risk into account as a factor reducing the taxation of entrepreneurs’ dividends. More than 2,000 people took part in the survey, conducted through the Taloustutkimus online panel in March–April. The margin of error for the population as a whole is 2–3 percentage points in either direction.
