Azerbaijan and Armenia have agreed to carry out the demarcation of their state border from north to south, starting at the point where the borders of Azerbaijan, Armenia, and Georgia meet.
According to APA, Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov made the statement while speaking to reporters.
Bayramov said the Azerbaijani and Armenian sides had agreed that the demarcation process would begin at the tripoint of Azerbaijan, Armenia, and Georgia and proceed southward.
“The composition of the State Commission on the Delimitation and Demarcation of the State Border between the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Republic of Armenia on the Azerbaijani side remains unchanged. The commission is headed by Deputy Prime Minister Shahin Mustafayev. Meetings and discussions between the commissions are held regularly. The corresponding commission on the Armenian side is also headed by the Deputy Prime Minister,” Bayramov said.
He noted that the commissions of the two countries had held numerous meetings in recent months, while a number of documents regulating their activities had been adopted and approved in both Azerbaijan and Armenia.
“There is an agreement on the direction in which the demarcation process should begin and subsequently proceed. There is agreement and mutual understanding that the work will start from the most difficult, northern section of the border, at the point where the borders of Azerbaijan, Armenia, and Georgia meet, and will continue from north to south,” he said.
Bayramov emphasized that more specific issues would be addressed by the demarcation commissions as the work progresses, with decisions expected to be made on those matters.
