Ruslan Shamal, a Republican candidate for state Senate, is running on Staten Island after escaping Belarus. He has lived on Staten Island since 2014, after moving through Brooklyn, Massachusetts and back to Brooklyn. Shamal has worked in broadcast media for more than 20 years and runs an e-commerce business. He also opened FurStar Resort, a Staten Island doggie daycare in Tompkinsville, 10 months ago. His campaign focuses on walking, knocking and talking, along with opposition to democratic socialism in New York City. If elected, he would address safety, support the NYPD, vote to repeal or reform bail laws, and stop tax hikes and hidden fees.
