Ukrainian authorities reported that the border crossing’s infrastructure was damaged and that the attack is part of a growing trend targeting land transport routes. Ukraine is increasingly reliant on border crossings, railways, and roads to maintain exports and imports following repeated Russian attacks on Black Sea ports and facilities.
Moldovan Border Police confirmed the incident, stating that the attack occurred during the night of September 8-9. According to information provided by the Ukrainian border service, one drone struck the crossing point, and two others crashed nearby, within Ukrainian territory. The Moldovan Tudora border crossing was closed while damage and security conditions were assessed.
Ukraine maintains that Russia recently attacked several border crossings, most of them near Moldova and at least one near Romania, a NATO member. Kyiv believes the objective is to disrupt essential supply chains and increase the economic cost of the war. Each closed crossing forces trucks, passengers, and goods to be diverted to alternative routes that can quickly become congested.
