MONTENEGRO (WABI) – Governor Janet Mills and Major General Diane Dunn are in Montenegro this week, meeting with top officials to mark 20 years of partnership.

The governor and Maine’s Adjutant General met with Montenegro’s president and prime minister to reaffirm ties between the Pine Tree State and the Balkan nation.

The alliance began in 2006 through the National Guard State Partnership Program, which pairs states with foreign countries to collaborate on defense, security, and disaster response.

During their trip, Mills and Dunn also shared a meal with Maine National Guard soldiers stationed overseas.
