Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said the country’s leadership is ready to discuss the terms of the Russian 102nd Military Base’s presence in Armenia, Russian media reported Thursday, September 17.
However, he stated that the events of September 2022 demonstrated that the base is not essential for Armenia’s security, UAWire reported.
“The events of September 2022 showed that the 102nd military base is not vital to Armenia’s security. If Russia decides to withdraw it, we will not object. If they do not want to withdraw it, we are ready to discuss it. We are prepared to discuss the terms for the continued presence in the Republic of Armenia of a base we do not need,” Pashinyan said.
At the same time, Pashinyan emphasized that no Armenian representative has ever raised the issue of withdrawing the 102nd Russian military base.
In 2025, the Armenian “For the Republic” party and its supporters organized a protest near the 102nd Russian military base in Gyumri, demanding that the Armenian government withdraw the Russian military base.
