Jorge Martin claimed pole position for the MotoGP Austrian Grand Prix. Marco Marquez finished in second place, while KTM’s Pedro Acosta completed the front row in third place.
After the first set of laps in Q2 in Austria, Acosta set the pace ahead of his future teammate, Marc Marquez. However, after the second runs, the Spaniard dropped to third place behind the two title contenders, Martin and Marquez. This was the Aprilia rider’s second pole position of the season.
After the session, Marquez said: “Yesterday I was struggling a lot on the time attack, so today we improved. From how I felt yesterday, I knew it was going to be difficult to be on the front row, and we are, so I’m happy. We changed a lot between the new tyre and used tyre. Sprint race will be one thing, but then especially the main race, starting on the front row is always important.”
Marco Bezzecchi, Ai Ogura, and Alex Marquez will complete the second row of the grid. Francesco Bagnaia successfully made it through to Q2 today, finishing in seventh place ahead of Fabio Di Giannantonio and Fabio Quartararo.
The biggest name to be knocked out in Q1 was Raul Fernandez. The Trackhouse rider missed out on the second session of qualifying for the second weekend in a row.
