Downsize for a great cause!
The Arts Council’s Yard Sale is scheduled for Friday, September 25th and Saturday, September 26th from 8am to 3pm each day! Located at 608 West Stuart Drive in Galax, we’re next to the Galax Public Library where there is ample parking; just walk across the Veterans’ Memorial lawn. We’ll be set-up on the front porch with lots of great stuff. All proceeds from the Yard Sale go to support the Arts Council’s theatre and music events.
We’ve already started receiving loads of items: home goods – pillows, furniture (several tables with leaves), paintings & decor, a working electric fireplace insert, DVDs, gardening and yard tools – a lawn mower, bicycles, a never used garbage disposal, baby equipment & toys, electronics, and so much more. We’re also still accepting items you can’t wait to get out of your garage through Thursday, September 24th. If you need to get rid of Aunt Lucy’s ceramic bird collection or Uncle John’s golf clubs, call the Arts Council at 276-238-1217 and we’ll gladly take it off your hands!

Auditions for the Legends of Sleepy Hollow – The Radio Play!
Get Ready to be SPOOKY! The Arts Council is celebrating Halloween with a Radio Play version of THE LEGEND OF SLEEPY HOLLOW by Aaron Mays. This amazing adaptation by Aaron Mays features Ichabod Crane, the Headless Horseman, a love interest and so much more, all condensed into a 60-minute production. Actors play multiple roles and sound effects are performed live and in front of the audience.
Auditions are Sunday, September 27th at 2pm, and Monday, September 28th at 6pm, at the Arts Council offices in Galax (608 West Stuart Drive). Perusal copies are available via email from The Arts Council at info@artsculturalcouncil.org. Actors can expect to rehearse 2-3 times per week starting in October. Rehearsals will take place in Independence and Galax. Performances will be over the Halloween weekend (October 31st and November 1st) at Rex Theatre in Galax, the Hillsville Farmers Market Stage, and the Historic 1908 Courthouse in Independence. Admission to all performances will $10/person.
The play calls for 6 radio actors, 3 to 4 men, and 2 to 4 women. We also looking for 2 foley actors to create various sound effects live on-stage. We are looking to cast the following roles:
Ichabod Crane – a lanky awkward school teacher both gullible and screwed with a voracious appetite.
Katrina Van Tassell – the beautiful and charming live interest of both Ichabod and Brom.
Brom Bones – the local hero who poses a threat to Ichabod.
Dietrich Knickerbocker – the narrator.
The Headless Horseman – the Hessian soldier who makes a brief short appearance.
Townspeople – the Van Tassels, Van Rippie, Mary Wells, Major Andre, and others.

Woodlawn High School class of 1956 will be holding their 70th high school reunion 2p.m. Saturday Oct. 8 at the Crooked Road Restaurant on Route 58. More details in the next issue of The Carroll News.
