CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WTAP) – West Virginia’s tourism economy generated a record $9.4 billion in economic impact, state officials announced at the annual Governor’s Conference on Tourism.
In 2025, the state welcomed 78.4 million visitors, a 1.6% increase from the previous year. Overnight travel grew by nearly 2%, generating $6.8 billion for local communities.
“This tourism boom is a direct reflection of the hard work happening in every corner of our state, proving that when we cut red tape and move at the speed of business, travelers and companies alike are ready to experience everything West Virginia has to offer,” said Gov. Morrisey.
Tourism directly and indirectly supports 61,728 jobs across West Virginia, or roughly one in 15 jobs in the state. Visitor activity also generated $2.3 billion in personal income and $643 million in state and local taxes.
Upcoming projects include improvements at Twin Falls Resort State Park, 32 new glamping sites at four state parks, the Slabtown Campground at Cass Scenic Railroad State Park and renovations at Hawks Nest.
“This progress builds upon a broader economic transformation across West Virginia, which has secured approximately $96 billion in private-sector investment and more than 19,000 projected jobs in less than a year,” Morrisey said.
“The secret is out, but our best days are still ahead of us,” said Gov. Morrisey. “Together, we are going to keep building on this record-breaking success, pushing new boundaries, and showing the world why West Virginia is truly Almost Heaven.”
