The ruling Democratic Party has distanced itself from the latest allegations against former Justice Minister nominee Kim Seung-won.
Party Chair Kim Min-seok said Monday that the party never received the petition Kim Seung-won’s former aides had drawn up detailing those allegations, including sexual harassment allegations.
KBS reported that the petition was delivered to the presidential office Thursday, two days before the nominee withdrew his candidacy.
The party chair instead shifted focus to pressing issues affecting public welfare, stressing that the public’s welfare is what’s important with the Chuseok holidays around the corner.
Meanwhile, the main opposition People Power Party urged President Lee Jae Myung to conduct a complete reshuffle of the Cabinet and top office as a way of taking responsibility for recent personnel appointments.
The party said presidential chief of staff Kang Hoon-sik’s offer to resign amid controversy over those appointments is not enough.
