President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi affirmed Egypt’s full support for efforts to achieve security and stability in Somalia, firmly rejecting any infringement on its sovereignty, unity or territorial integrity.

El-Sisi made the remarks during a meeting with Director of the US Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) John Ratcliffe on Sunday, attended by Head of Egypt’s General Intelligence Service (GIS) Hassan Rashad.

Ratcliffe expressed the US appreciation for Egypt’s active role in supporting security and stability across Africa.

He stressed the importance of continued coordination and consultation between the relevant authorities in the two countries, particularly on the Sudanese crisis, developments in Somalia and the Horn of Africa, and international maritime security.

Such coordination, he said, would support efforts to address security and geopolitical challenges, terrorist organizations and organized crime, while enhancing the exchange of views, assessments and information on regional and international developments affecting the security and stability of the region.

The meeting addressed Egypt-US strategic bilateral relations and developments in the Middle East, including the war in Iran, as well as the ceasefire plan for Gaza, the Palestinian cause and the Sudanese crisis.

The CIA chief conveyed Trump’s greetings to El-Sisi and expressed the US administration’s keenness to continue close coordination with Egypt to promote security and stability in the Middle East.

He also praised Egypt’s pivotal role in supporting efforts to reach peaceful and comprehensive solutions to the region’s crises.

Ratcliffe highlighted the strong cooperation between the CIA and the GIS in security and intelligence, counterterrorism, combating organized crime and addressing transnational crimes.
